Annual salary

About this tool

This salary calculator converts between an hourly rate and an annual salary in either direction. Switch to "Hourly → Annual" to enter what you earn per hour, how many hours you typically work each week, and how many weeks you work per year, and it multiplies those out to your annual salary. Switch to "Annual → Hourly" to go the other way: enter an annual salary and the calculator divides it back down to what that works out to per hour, using the same hours-per-week and weeks-per-year inputs. Alongside the main result you’ll also see the monthly and weekly equivalents, so you can compare an hourly job offer against a salaried one on the same footing.

This is a simple gross-pay conversion, not a payroll or tax calculator — it does not account for income tax, social security or other payroll deductions, employer-paid benefits, overtime premiums, or unpaid time off beyond what you enter in the weeks-per-year field. If you know you’ll take two unpaid weeks off, try entering 50 instead of 52 to see a more realistic annual figure. Everything is computed instantly in your browser and nothing you type is sent anywhere.

Frequently asked questions

Why would I set "weeks per year" to less than 52?

A full year has 52 weeks (plus a day or two), but that's only the right number to use if you're paid for every single week, including vacation. If you take unpaid time off — say, 2 weeks of unpaid vacation — set this to 50 instead, since those 2 weeks don't contribute to your annual pay. Freelancers and contractors especially benefit from lowering this number to account for weeks with no billable work at all.
